If you're in the market for a holographic sight, get ready to meet the EOTech family – the special forces’ favorite and the ultimate party guest for your rifle. The EXPS2-0 leads the pack with its sleek design and big, clear rectangular window. It's like upgrading from an old tube TV to a flatscreen. The 68 MOA circle with a 1 MOA dot is so precise, it’ll have you landing shots like you're playing darts at a backyard BBQ – if your BBQ happens to be 100 yards away and you're hitting bullseyes with military precision.
We review and consider the most popular holographic sights on the market for you so that you can make an informed decision on your next holographic sight.
First on the list, the EOTech EXPS 2-0
EOTech is the only option in the holographic sight game according to most US special forces units and the most highly regarded is their EXPS2-0
It has a big rectangular window that is very clear and is shorter than it's predecessor, the 512. The convenient and easy to measure at distance 68 MOA circle with a 1 MOA dot in the center means that at 100 yards, the big circle will cover 68 inches while the center dot will cover 1 inch.
Don't worry about the reticle's fuzzy look – that's not a glitch, it’s a feature. When you're in the heat of battle (or the heat of competition), with both eyes open, you’ll be so locked in on your target that you won’t notice. And, if you feel like going long, just throw on a flip-up 3x magnifier. Sunny days in the desert? No problem – this thing handles glare like a pair of premium aviators. The EXPS2-0 is your go-to for everything from close-quarters to longer-range shots, all while giving you major tactical street cred.
The shorter EOTechs have a couple of variants but the EXPS2-0 is the most common compared to the regular XPS line since it is 1/3 co-witness which doesn’t get in the way as much if you have backup irons. It also has a robust quick-detach (QD) rail system and buttons on the side which makes it fantastic for running magnifiers. The 2-0 has the 68 MOA circle with a 1 MOA center. If you’re running night vision, you can opt for the EXPS3-0 which has some specific night vision settings but the 2-0 on its lowest setting with night vision works fine. The reticle makes it super easy for close-up shots while the 1 MOA dot is useful for farther shots, making this optic ideal for competition use.
If you plan on removing your optic and putting it back on at any point EOTech in general is a must have option, it is famous for maintaining zero during those scenarios.
And what about extreme abuse? The fact that it gets used during some of the most extreme battle conditions on the planet should answer that question, it has been proven to operate flawlessly when water logged, extreme heat, extreme cold, high impact scenarios, and even after being shot.
This is why we chose this sight for best overall.
Second pick: EOTech Model 512
Yeah I know, another EOTech as second choice, but they really are just that good.
Now, if you’re balling on a budget but still want to rock the EOTech name, the Model 512 is here to save the day (and your wallet). It's like the EXPS2-0’s more affordable cousin who knows how to stretch a dollar but still brings the goods to the family reunion. It runs on AA batteries, which means you can find juice for this thing at any corner store – no fancy CR123s needed. Plus, you still get that legendary EOTech reticle for faster target acquisition, without the extra cost of the quick-detach system. The Model 512 is their most popular and their most affordable, probably not a coincidence. It’s longer since it uses AA batteries which are normally easier to find than CR123 in the newer EOTech models. The benefit to that is that You’ll get up to 1,000 hours of battery life with lithium AA batteries and 600 hours with alkaline. It also uses a screw attachment instead of the quick-detach system of the EXPS2-0. That means it weighs less, costs less, and gives you absolute co-witness. It will still provide you with the same great reticle and faster acquisition like the other EOTechs.
Ok, with our third pick the cat is officially out of the bag, EOTech is really pretty much the only option when it comes to holographic sights specifically (minor exception with our last pick coming up). By the time you get to the XPS2-0, you'll realize EOTech practically owns the holographic sight market. This one is smaller, lighter, and lets you save a few bucks while still looking cool. Buttons on the front make it perfect for most setups, however, if you plan on adding a magnifier, it’s better to have the extra height and buttons to the side of the EXPS2-0. This is a great pick if you don’t plan on moving your optic a lot, don’t use a magnifier, and want to save a few bucks on one of the newer EOTech models. The XPS2-0 is one of the newer, smaller EOTech designs. Like the Model 512, the XPS2-0 is screw based so you save a couple bucks vs the QD-mounted EXPS2-0 version.
Our only pick in this list that's not EOTech and It's technically not a holographic sight but it's close enough to be considered.
The big ring with 2 MOA red dot was one of our major considerations with this pick, it's become synonymous in the holo sight world. The Holosun 510C brings together the best of both worlds by using energy-saving LED technology and the reticle found in holographic sights. Insanely long battery life and a sweet reticle that isn’t “fuzzy” like normal holographic sights also adorn this option. The center is a 2 MOA while the outside ring is 65 MOA. You can also cycle between using the dot only, ring only, or the combo. One minor downfall is that it does have a greenish hue to the glass but many red dot optics have that (due to the glass coating) and once you get used to it it will no longer be an issue. If you’re a baller on a budget and looking for the ring and dot reticle (and not the slightly increased acquisition speed)…you can’t go wrong with this optic, It’s crisp and nearly parallax-free like its pricier competitors. The 510C boasts a 50,000 hour battery life since it runs off LED, PLUS it has solar capability that switches in the sun so you aren’t running off batteries. FINALLY, it’s lighter and has a smaller profile. Buttons are on the side for easy access and it also has a QD attachment system that maintains zero much like the EOTechs that it strives to emulate. The 510C surprsingly also has night vision capabilities but is less waterproof than our other picks.
In conclusion, when it comes to holographic sights, EOTech dominates the market with its innovative designs, superior build quality, and proven performance in the harshest environments. Whether you're a seasoned professional or just starting, the EXPS2-0, Model 512, and XPS2-0 provide a range of options to suit different needs and budgets. EOTech's battle-tested reliability, quick target acquisition, and adaptability for magnifiers or night vision make them a top choice for any shooter looking for premium optics.
For those looking for a more budget-friendly option without sacrificing too much performance, the Holosun 510C is an excellent alternative. While it's not a true holographic sight, it mimics many of the same features, such as the versatile ring and dot reticle, while offering a longer battery life and solar power capabilities. With these options in mind, choosing the right holographic sight comes down to your specific shooting requirements and preferences.
